Choices, not flummery

I'm sick of the "conservative," "right-wing" talk show hosts, who seem to think that they're the leaders of the Republican Party. Of course, the Tea Party-lackeys and "Christian" congressional leaders are happy to let those gas bags blather on the airwaves while they hide in the marble chambers of the nation's House  and Senate. They don't have to address the public or present reasoned arguments, so long as Rush and Sean and Co. espouse the rancorous message du jour, cradling the GOP politicans in soft, motherly hands.
Though no one in the GOP would ever admit it, the agenda among the Tea Bag humpers and Christian-right parrots is to kill Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, and end all federally-funded social support programs ever created. I know that's no surprise to many of you, but it may be shocking to some.
They chew around the edges of the issues, claiming that they want to cut programs to "save" them. But if you ever get them in private, where media hounds are not around, one or two among them will crow about their plans to scrap all the "social support programs" in favor of freewheeling capitalism.
They favor ONLY the abundantly endowed (be it financial or amorous) and scorn the poor, the workers and the silent, desperate majority, who are so easily ignored and so badly led.
I'm constantly surprised at how willingly Americans are led into darkness.
Their lack of insight, logic or thought is astoundingly sad. I also am somewhat in awe of the GOP's capacity for lying, manipulating and sidestepping the truth. It's amazing! They want to destroy public schools, public broadcasting, public libraries, public jobs programs, public food programs, public education-aid programs – in short, all public programs supported by federal tax dollars.
The American public has to choose what kind of society it wants for itself, for its children, for its legacy.
The nation, given the annual tax income to the federal government, can afford whatever programs it chooses to support. It's only a matter of choosing and implementing actions to invest in that choice.
But we're told that the government can't afford to give up billions of dollars in wasteful military spending, billions of dollars in wasteful "covert actions" spending, billions of dollars in useless "pork" programs, but we must get rid of PBS radio, food stamps, unemployment benefits, workers' unions, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, or the nation will fall into a deep, dark hole. That's the sales pitch the GOP is touting, but it just doesn't fly, if one is willing to think about what's being said. Given the trail they're on, it's clear to me that the GOP has one goal. To elevate gentrification to the status of "patriotism" and condemn millions of people to isolation and neglect.
Ah well. Life goes on.

I can't wait to get home and try to enlighten you as to why you are wrong in your thinking. Sadly I am working right now and can't take the time to correct you properly. Expect a complete explination of your naivety before midnight EDT.

I apologize for my tardiness in my comment that I had promised last night. Now to your correction. I want to make this clear, you have the conservatives completely wrong. You also have the GOP wrong. If you go back 3 years ago, the GOP was the DNC light. It was just a reduced fat version of the DNC. However, the Tea Party is a completely different version. It is actually different. The way they are different is that they are Constitutionalists. Now I am going to try to put this into terms that you will understand and you should be able to see why the Tea Party is right. You have this blog and you make no money off of it. Just like me, with my blog. Right now it is just a way to let off some steam. Now say a friend of George Soros just stumbles upon your ultra liberal blog and decides to introduce him to you. You meet with him and he decides to give you a job making $2 million a year to write an article for one of his ultra liberal sites. You just went from one of the "silent, desperate majority" to one of the evil "upper-class." Now with your new found wealth, you decide to go buy a house in an up scale liberal neighborhood, and buy a nice car to show off to your new Hollywood type friends.
Now instead of being taxed at a next to nothing tax rate, your are now being taxed at approximately 65% of you total income (after federal income, social security, medicaid, medicare, state income, state sales, and personal property taxes.) Now you bring home approximaetly $700,000. With this money you have to pay your large mortgage, car payment, and insurance bills. With the left over money you now decide to "spread the wealth" by hiring people to do work for you. You hire a landscaper to manicure your lawn, because you don't have time for that, and a maid to help keep the house clean, because after all you don't have time to clean while researching for the next thing to smear the Republicans with. Now you became an employer and just went from a evil upper-class to an even more evil, capitalist. After doing this you are pretty much out of money after you host a couple of liberal parties a year.
Now imagine of instead of bing taxed 35% a year by the federal government, you were taxed 12%.

Imagine how much more money you would have to give to "public schools, public broadcasting, public libraries, public jobs programs, public food programs, public education-aid programs – in short, all public programs (currently) supported by federal tax dollars." Also think how much money your local programs actually get from the federal government after all of the middle men in the bureaucracy take their cuts out of it. If you give your money directly to them, the middle men don't get a cut.

Now imagine all of the wealthy people in your area having extra money. What are they going to do with all of that extra money? They are either going to spend it, or they are going to find something they find important to donate it to.
So now you should be able to see, that although the federal government has painted a pretty picture about how they can solve all of the problems in the world, even if they were to tax everyone in the United States at 100%, they won't be able to continue to provide everything for everyone. If you take away the need to work hard, people stop working hard. If you take away the reward for working hard, people stop working hard. If you make it easier to stay at home and do nothing, then people will do just that. Most people are inheritly good, greedy, and lazy. But if you want people to work for you, you have to be willing to make it to their advantage to work for you instead of someone else. You have to either give them higher wages, better benefits, or better perks than your competitors. The more people you have trying to work for you, the better people you get and the better your company will run because they want to keep their job. Capitalism is the driving force behind our country and destroying our backbone, will do the same to us.

I hope you enjoyed my little rant.

I hope you see a kink in your armor and realize that the crap that has been programmed into you isn't all right. In fact it is mostly wrong.

Feel free to try to correct me if you can, but I oubt you will be able to.

Have a nice ever after,

Stephen Hanna
