New York rats are loose Iraq! Robin Williams is one of his frenetic, sweaty rants on stage in Chicago. He lampoons every religion, every sexual predilection, every political viewpoint and every tradition, and he is FUNNY!
News came this morning that six or seven U.S. soldiers were rescued from captivity after Iraqi officers abandoned their posts. I'm glad the soldiers were alive, if not altogether well.
This crazy fuggin war is mind-boggling! Wasn't it Iraqis dancing in the street celebrating the death of Americans in New York on Sept. 11, 2001? Weren't those same Iraqis screaming epithets about "Death to Americans," and "Death to Bush," and "Saddam is god?"
So what's up with this amazing turnaround of gratitude and joy when their exalted leader suddenly drops off the face of the earth?
I guess it's true, people will do anything to survive. ANYTHING! So for the president to suggest that we're dealing with a noble and cultured people seems absurd to me. It's more like we're dealing with a bunch of back-stabbing thieves. A nation of pissed off people who have no sense of patriotism or loyalty (not that I'm unhappy that they weren't loyal to Saddam). They're tearing their own country to pieces and we're standing aside and letting it happen. I don't know what's right anymore. I don't want to see our soldiers put in the position of having to play police for the cities of Iraq because they've got enough to deal with as it is. But something has to change quickly or the whole place will be a pile of rubble; a bubbling cauldron of vendettas and recrimination.
Viva la freedom! Whatever that is.
And a happy Sunday to you, one and all. May the troops come home soon. Amen.
